Netflix has published fresh “Kingdom: Ashin of the North” stills!
“Kingdom: Ashin of the North,” a special episode dedicated to Jun Ji Hyun’s character Ashin, whom Lee Chang’s (Joo Ji Hoon’s) party met on their voyage north at the end of Season 2, is a continuation of “Kingdom” Season 2.
The first two seasons of “Kingdom” focused on Joseon’s serene and graceful beauty, whereas the upcoming special episode will travel to the cold North in search of the plague’s source.
The freshly released stills depict a wide and barren northern landscape, which contrasts sharply with the scenes from Seasons 1 and 2. The unavoidable explanation for the success of “Kingdom: Ashin of the North.”” takes place in the North is because of writer Kim Eun Hee’s decision to make the resurrection plant thrive in the cold temperature.
“I was able to capture another world’s beauty that I couldn’t display in ‘Kingdom,’” said director Kim Sung Hoon, who brilliantly depicted the contrast between the majestic and stunning Joseon scenery and the zombies hungry for blood and flesh.
The story of “Kingdom: Ashin of the North” takes place on the frontier between Joseon and the Seongjeoyain people. As a result, the production crew needed to choose a place that combined the North’s unique and foreign culture with Joseon’s familiar living habits.
Ashin’s feelings are represented by the gloomy and lonely scenery of the North, such as the vast terrain, the deep and dark coniferous forests, and the dazzlingly white snowy landscape. The still of Ashin standing alone in the huge terrain as the night turns dark blue expresses her grief at being the only one left alive after her family and house were destroyed in an attack.
Director Kim Sung Hoon shared, “The color tones from the expansive North and the enormous coniferous forest will deliver a different type of energy.”
“Kingdom: Ashin of the North” will be released on July 23.
